From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Louis van Gaal's side reached the final with a 2-1 win over Everton in last weekend's semi-final but will have to switch shirts due to a clash with Palace's red and blue stripes.
The colours will evoke memories of the 1990 match between the same sides at the same stadium, which resulted in a 3-3 draw. United reverted to their traditional red shirts for the replay, with Palace sporting a change shirt as Lee Martin's goal proved decisive for the Old Trafford side to give Sir Alex Ferguson his first trophy at the club.
United wore the white top for the fifth round 3-0 victory at Shrewsbury and the sixth round replay win at West Ham earlier this month, which featured goals from Marouane Fellaini and Marcus Rashford.
Palace reached the final - only the second in their history - with a 2-1 victory over Watford on Sunday. Yannick Bolasie and Connor Wickham scored headers for Alan Pardew's side, either side of Troy Deeney's equaliser.
