Your support makes all the difference.Manchester United’s home fixture against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday has been postponed due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak at the club.
A Premier League statement said United had been left unable to field a team for the match at Old Trafford after “additional positive tests” were recorded on Thursday.
United’s trip to Brentford on Tuesday was also postponed due a “significant number of Covid-19 cases” and Saturday’s match against Brighton is the fourth Premier League fixture to be called off in the past week due to the spread of the Omicron variant.
The Premier League said it is their intention to “continue its current fixture schedule where safely possible” amid ongoing outbreaks at several clubs.
United said it will suspend operations at its Carrington training base “for a short period” to reduce the risk of further infections.
The club recorded a “small number” of positive results following its away fixture at Norwich last weekend and their training ground was also shut down on Monday.
With Saturday’s match against Brighton postponed, United’s next scheduled fixture is their home game against Newcastle on December 27.
“Given the number of players and support staff having to isolate due to Covid-19, the club had no option other than to request the match be rearranged,” United said.
The club added that the Brighton fixture will be rescheduled “in due course”.
