Meanwhile Luton Town are making their first appearance in the Premier League, having risen from non-league in an incredible decade of progress. They followed Championship winners Burnley and second-placed Sheffield United in earning promotion to the top flight.

Fulham look to make a quick response once more. It's sent long over the top by Ream for Jimenez, and he checks back at the byline to lose Ake and pick out Harris. He wasn't expecting it, and it bounces off him into Ederson's gloves.

City haven't been at their high-flying best, but despite creating very little in front of goal, they have scored with both of their shots on target. They'll be looking to provide a bigger threat after the game. Fulham need to use half-time to regain their composure after the frustration of that second City goal. They've played well though, and Silva will feel that they can get something out of this game.

City score just before half-time to take a 2-1 lead into the break over Fulham. The first 30 minutes of the game were tight, with neither side managing to create a single chance. Alvarez actually scored with the first shot of the game on the half-hour mark, tapping in Haaland's low cross. Just two minutes later, Fulham were level once more after Ream latched onto the loose ball after Ederson saved Jimenez's volley. In stoppage time, Ake thumped in a header from a corner, and after a VAR check to see if Akanji was blocking Leno, it controversially stood.
