Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Barcelona against Manchester United in spectacular fashion on Tuesday evening.

After an exciting opening to the game which saw Barcelona awarded a penalty which was later ruled out by VAR, Messi struck with a sublime curling finish to hand Barcelona the initiative in the tie.

Deep inside his own half, Manchester United full-back Ashley Young lost the ball with Messi quick to pounce.

The Argentine worked his way past both Fred and Phil Young before unleashing a low, curling finish which beat David de Gea and rolled into the far corner of the net.

Messi then doubled Barcelona’s advantage just moments later, scoring again to give Barcelona a 3-0 lead in the tie.
