From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.South Korea almost left Cuiaba with the win against Fabio Capello’s Russia but a goal by Aleksandr Kerzhakov took that away from the Asian nation. Hong Myung-Bo’s side are set to face Algeria knowing that a win would put them in a qualification spot ahead of their final group stage match against Belgium.
The former South Korea captain is not expected to make any substantial changes at the starting line-up and is fortunate enough to have no injury concerns. However, scorer Lee Keun-Ho could be hoping for a start after scoring his team’s first goal last week, even though the ball slipped from Igor Akinfeev’s hands.
Algeria posed an impressive opposition against group favourites Belgium and albeit the loss they did hold their ground well. Manager Vahid Halilhodzic is expected to trust the same players as last week as many positives occurred on defence and midfield and much more could come out against South Korea. However, the Desert Warriors should be wary of open spaces on the field because that is how Belgium turned the match around on the first fixture.
