The Independent’s chief football correspondent Sam Wallace was on the ground to watch the players prepare for their latest warm-up match against Ecuador, with Roy Hodgson announcing in a press conference that Frank Lampard will captain the England side in tonight’s game.
Wallace said the game against Ecuador was a good chance for those players who have not regularly featured in recent England games to "make an impression," as Hodgson has said he had still not made his mind up on his starting line-up for the Italy game.
Hodgson is also considering shifting Wayne Rooney out to the left side of England's attack as the England manager explores all his options on the best way to deploy a player who has looked short of his best form.
Rooney trained on the left side of the three attacking midfield players in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the session at the Sun Life stadium. In that system, Ross Barkley occupied the No 10 position with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the right side and Rickie Lambert the lone striker.
The game kicks off at 3pm local time to give it prime billing at 8pm in the United Kingdom.
