Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The group stage draw will be made on 12 December at 5pm.
Northern Ireland and Wales, however, must overcome the odds again at Euro 2016 after Uefa confirmed they would be among the bottom seeds in France next summer.
Joining England in Pot 1 are Germany, Portugal, Belgium, plus the hosts France, who have been automatically assigned to Pot 1.
Definitely in Pot 2 are Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Austria and Croatia.
If Bosnia and Herzegovina win their play-off, they will also be in Pot 2. If they lose, Ukraine can enter that pot by winning their play-off. If both teams lose, the Czech Republic will be the sixth team in Pot 2.
Definitely in Pot 4 are Iceland, Wales, Albania and Northern Ireland.
The tournament line-up will be completed next month after play-offs featuring the following teams: Bosnia, Denmark, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden and Ukraine.
The teams will be drawn into six groups of four teams each (Groups A to F), with the top two in each plus the four best third-placed sides to advance to the knockout phase. The group stage runs from 10–22 June 2016.
