Your support makes all the difference.England and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has revealed that one his sons has asked him to buy a new England kit - with Jamie Vardy's name on the back.
The Leicester City striker has enjoyed an incredible rise to the top this season, after scoring just five Premier League goals last season, he has 19 this term for the table topping Foxes, and also scored in both England friendlies this week against Germany and the Netherlands.
National captain Rooney, who has seen his own place in Roy Hodgson's side come under some threat because of injury on top of the performances of Vardy and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, has revealed that one of his three sons has Vardy as his new favourite.
"My lad asked me to get an England kit with Vardy on the back!" Rooney said last night, working on ITV as a pundit for England's 2-1 defeat to the Netherlands.
"The impact he’s had on the Premier League is great for English football. Hopefully he can continue that."
Rooney also revealed during the programme that he should return to ful training in "a week or 10 days" with a return to Louis van Gaal's side expected in a couple of weeks.
The striker has only seven Premier League goals this season but had been enjoying a run of good form before suffering an injury in February.
Despite speculation this week that Rooney's place in the Euro 2016 starting XI may be under threat, the man himself said he was excited at the amount of talent in the current squad.
"It excites me. First of all I want England to be successful and win trophies," he said.
"Obviously it’s great to be a part of that, and it’s an opportunity for us to do really well in the summer. The decision is down to Roy Hodgson but I want to be there, I want to be involved, and help lead this team to be successful.
"As I’ve said throughout my career at Manchester United and England I never take my place for granted. Obviously you want to play but it’s great that that competition is there, it hasn’t always been there. But the quality we’ve got is exciting to be a part of. I can’t wait to get fit and get out there with the lads.
"I don’t think in terms of fighting for my place, it’s exciting. In previous tournaments if everyone was fit, more or less the team is set.
"Now no-one knows what’s going to happen, he could play three or four different teams, different combinations, I really believe we have that quality.
"For the country it’s going to be an exciting tournament and something which I’m looking forward to - hopefully I'll be contributing goals to the team.
