Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Under Hills, England have scored 20 goals and conceded none and they were never in trouble against the Turks in Adana. Eniola Aluko fired England ahead early on with a spectacular 25-yard effort and Fara Williams made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after a quarter of an hour.
Toni Duggan headed the third shortly after the restart and Jordan Nobbs was in the right place – on the goal-line – to bundle in the fourth on the hour.
When the teams met at Fratton Park last month, two goals from Duggan in the first three minutes led to an 8-0 trouncing. This time it took a whole 10 minutes for England to get off the mark, but Aluko's strike was worth the wait.
Then on 15 minutes the Turkish centre-back Sibel Duman was judged to have handled Aluko's cross inside the box and the referee Yuliya Medvedeva pointed to the spot. Williams duly converted, side-footing past the goalkeeper Fatma Sahin. Shortly after the restart, Duggan then headed home from a corner after Williams and Ellen White had forced Sahin into an impressive double save.
The fourth goal was lucky, even if the build-up was well worked. Duggan headed Scott's cross against the bar and the ball bounced down on the goal-line, ricocheted off Nobbs and crept into the net.
England's next qualifier is at home to Montenegro on 5 April next year at a venue yet to be confirmed.
