Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Well, that was bad. Very, very bad.
The Republic of Ireland and England took part in one of the most boring, pointless scoreless friendlies played in a long time (and the Three Lions have been involved in a few).
The home side managed to have just one shot on target and England just three. The best save of the afternoon saw Joe Hart tip Daryl Murphy's shot round the post - and a goal-kick was given.
No one seemed to want to be there, with the game played at a snail's pace. Roy Hodgson was even pictured yawning (above).
Paul Scholes, in his role as a pundit for ITV, who broadcast the game live, described the game as "a waste of an afternoon".
"There was a real lack of quality. A waste of an afternoon. An end of season waste of space," he said.
Yes, that's right, a man paid to be at the game and deliver his expert analysis couldn't find anything better to say. Oh dear.
Here's some more reaction:
When ITV presenter Mark Pougatch asks the pundits to "talk about the full-backs", it's time to turn over, or go outside.
