Nicklas Bendtner completed his first international hat trick with an injury-time winner as Denmark beat the United States 3-2 in a friendly on Wednesday, sparking a flurry of brilliant memes as he celebrated the feat.

Jozy Altidore put the visitors ahead in the 19th minute with a left-foot shot following a long cross. Denmark leveled in the 33rd when Jakob Poulsen's cross missed Lasse Vibe - but was pounced on by Bendtner.

The Danes controlled much of the game but struggled to find a finishing touch.

Aron Johannsson, who started his professional career in Denmark, restored the United States' lead in the 66th minute.

Bendtner came to Denmark's rescue with an equalizer in the 83rd minute and then powered the winner past goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the first minute of stoppage time, to the joy of the 10,505 fans.

Bendtner left Arsenal during the summer when his contract ended with the club, after scoring 47 goals in 171 appearances. He signed for Wolfsburg last August on a three-year contract, and has scored two goals in nine games for the German side.
