Roy Hogdson’s side will line up for their tournament opener against Russia at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille while decked out in a rather unorthodox strip.
The latest home kit design loses the all-white colour scheme of recent years but does not return to the traditional white shirt, navy shorts, white socks standard.
Instead, the home shirt features sky blue sleeves, royal blue racing stripes and the socks are red. The variations are replicated on the red away strip, which features claret sleeves and royal blue socks.
The home strip’s red socks are said to commemorate England’s 2-0 friendly triumph over Brazil at the Maracana in 1984, while the away kit pays homage to the 1966 World Cup winning side’s victory over West Germany.
That’s all well and good but, judging by the reaction on social media, those little nods towards history do not atone for ditching traditional colours.
