Antoine Griezmann scored twice in the second half as world champions France came from behind to beat Germany 2-1 in their Nations League clash and increase the pressure on Joachim Low.
Germany looked to have produced the required response from a 3-0 defeat in Holland on Saturday, which left them in danger of relegation, as Toni Kroos slotted in a penalty just before the break.
Les Bleus, though, regrouped following the restart, as Griezmann equalised just after the hour with a well-taken looping header.
The Atletico Madrid frontman then kept his cool to convert from the spot with 10 minutes left following a somewhat controversial penalty.
It was a sixth defeat in the past 10 games for Low's squad, who crashed out of the group stages at the World Cup in Russia and remain bottom of their Nations League table with just one point from three matches.
France, meanwhile, look set to progress as winners of Group One, now they are four points clear of Holland.
Elsewhere, Harry Wilson curled home a stunning free-kick as Ryan Giggs' Welsh understudies made light of the absence of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to deepen the Republic of Ireland's woes.
The Derby winger left keeper Darren Randolph rooted to the spot as his 58th-minute strike secured a 1-0 Nations League victory for Wales.
The result piled the pressure on Ireland boss Martin O'Neill amid boos on the final whistle at the Aviva Stadium.
Re-live the action below:
Ireland 0-0 Wales, 49 minutes
James McClean won't be heading to Denmark next month - he's picked up a booking for a trip on Harry Wilson and is thus suspended for Ireland's next Nations League game.
France 0-1 Germany, 52 minutes
Raw speed from Kylian Mbappe to blow past Niklas Sule and it takes an exceptional save from Manuel Neuer to keep the Germans ahead.
Mbappe pokes across the goalkeeper but Neuer extends his left leg brilliantly to save.
Kylian Mbappe has been France's most dangerous player.
Ireland 0-0 Wales, 53 minutes
More of the same from Ireland and Wales. Both sides have impressed with their defensive organisation thus far and neither side has a creative player or a real influencer to break them down.
France 0-1 Germany, 57 minutes
Awful free kick from Kylian Mbappe, trying a Cristiano Ronaldo style driven cross but getting it all wrong and the ball flies out for a goal kick.
Ireland 0-0 Wales, 56 minutes
Martin O'Neill blinks first - Shane Long is on.
Aiden O'Brien is the man replaced.
Ireland 0-0 Wales, 57 minutes
Clever 1-2 between David Brooks and Connor Roberts and the latter is rather clattered into by a sliding Harry Arter on the edge of Ireland's box.
A great opportunity for the away team...
GOAL! Ireland 0-1 Wales (Harry Wilson, 57 minutes)
Magnificent!
Harry Wilson has hit an absolute pearler in to the far top corner. Left-footed from the right hand side of the box, Wilson rifles across goal the most perfect of strikes, leaving Darren Randolph completely unmoved.
GOAL! France 1-1 Germany (Antoine Griezmann, 61 minutes)
France back on level terms.
Lucas Hernandez powers a ball in to the box at about head height and Griezmann reacts superbly to power a brilliant header across and over Manuel Neuer into the far corner.
Ireland 0-1 Wales, 63 minutes
Ireland have brought on Sean Maguire to replace club teammate Callum Robinson as they chase a leveller.
The home crowd are trying to rouse their team.
