The Uruguayan Football Association (UAF) has confirmed that it will appeal the nine-match international ban and four-month complete ban given to disgraced striker Luis Suarez after he was found guilty of biting an opponent for a third time.

The UAF President Wilmar Valdez said that the ban is “excessive and sever” and goes against the evidence that was produced, which showed Suarez biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay's 1-0 victory on Tuesday.

Valdez also described the ban, which is the biggest in Fifa World Cup history, felt as though Uruguay have “been thrown out of the World Cup” ahead of their second round clash against Colombia on Saturday night.

“We are preparing our appeal now, we have three days to do it,” said Valdez.

“It is an excessive decision and there was not enough evidence and I have seen more aggressive incidents recently.

“It is a severe punishment. I don't know exactly which arguments they used but it is a tough punishment for Suarez.

“It's feels like Uruguay has been thrown out of the World Cup. We all know what Suarez means to Uruguay and to football around the world - not having Suarez would be a loss to any team.”

Suarez will miss up to 18 matches for club and country should Uruguay reach the semi-finals, and his four month ban from all forms of football means he has had to leave the training camp immediately, and he is not allowed to train with any side nor step foot in a football stadium until the end of October.
