From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The forward, who has scored once in 18 games for Chelsea since his £50m move from Liverpool in January, left the field with concussion after 15 minutes but was later given the all-clear to join up with the rest of the Spain team for their return to Madrid. He could, however, still be a doubt for Chelsea's trip to Stoke on Sunday. Italy won the match 2-1, Alberto Aquilani scoring the winning goal.
Northern Ireland moved into third place in their Euro 2012 qualifying group after overcoming Faroe Islands 4-0 at Windsor Park. Fulham defender Aaron Hughes put Nigel Worthington's side ahead after five minutes before fine second-half efforts from Steven Davis and Pat McCourt (two) cemented the victory.
In friendly action, Wales went down 2-1 against Australia at Cardiff City Stadium. Despite Gareth Bale making his first international appearance in 10 months, Tim Cahill volleyed the visitors ahead just before the interval and Robbie Kruse doubled the lead on the hour, tapping home a rebound after Wayne Hennessey parried Scott McDonald's cross. Darcy Blake added a late consolation on his home ground.
Scotland overcame Denmark 2-1 at Hampden Park, all three goals coming in the first half. Charlie Adam's 21st-minute free-kick deflected off William Kvist Jorgensen to give Craig Levein's side the lead, only for Christian Eriksen, who impressed against England in a friendly last season, to equalise nine minutes later with a free-kick. Robert Snodgrass headed home Kenny Miller's cross before the interval to seal the victory.
The Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 with Croatia at the Aviva stadium.
Elsewhere, Germany beat Brazil 3-2 in Stuttgart, while Arsenal'sAndrei Arshavin clashed heads and was taken off in Russia's 1-0 win over Serbia.
The night's only surviving League Cup tie saw Cardiff win 3-1 at Oxford after extra time.
