From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Newcastle United star Kieron Dyer faces an urgent medical test on his injured knee when he meets up later today with the England squad for Saturday's crunch World Cup clash with Germany.
The skillful midfielder twisted a knee during his club's hard-fought 1-0 Premiership win at Manchester City on Saturday.
He is England coach Kevin Keegan's biggest injury worry for qualifiers against Germany and Finland.
Dyer, 21, will be examined by Keegan's medical team to see if there is any chance of him being fit for the qualifiers.
A Newcastle spokesman said: "Kieron has travelled to meet up with the England squad to be assessed by their medical team and doctors, and it will depend on what they have to say."
Paul Scholes may have to miss a couple of days' training with a foot injury while David Beckham suffered a knock to his knee in Manchester United's defeat at Arsenal yesterday but both are expected to recover before next Saturday.
Martin Keown also limped away from Highbury but this was due to what Highbury officials described as a "mild ankle sprain".
And despite previous worries over Emile Heskey's fitness due to a knee injury, the striker played in Liverpool's 3-0 defeat at Chelsea.
Rio Ferdinand also came through the whole of West Ham's game against Bradford, while Paul Ince has had two stitches to a knee injury but is confident of being ready.
Dyer's Newcastle team-mate Andy Griffin has had to admit defeat in his bid to return to action for Howard Wilkinson's under-21 side. He hurt his back at Maine Road and has been withdrawn from the international squad.
The Newcastle spokesman added: "We have been in touch with the Football Association about Andy and he has been withdrawn from the under-21 squad."
