From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

If one man could be said to have carried his side to World Cup glory it was Maradona in 1986. Four years previously in Spain the little genius had been kicked by Italians and sent off against Brazil – in Mexico he set about exacting revenge.
Argentina under coach Carlos Bilardo were a more defensive side than the one which lifted the World Cup in 1978 but that merely provided the platform for Maradona to shine. Against England he scored what was arguably the best goal in World Cup history – after his infamous "Hand of God" had beaten Peter Shilton to make it 1-0 – only to top it with another individual effort in the semi-final against Belgium.
In the final with West Germany all eyes were on Maradona and he did not disappoint, his pass with seven minutes to go setting up Jorge Burruchaga's winner.
