From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Manchester United striker Federico Macheda believes his career will benefit by returning to England after spending six months on loan with Italian side Sampdoria.

The Italian forward joined the Genoa outfit in January but was unable to help the team avoid relegation.

"Psychologically it was not easy because to go from United to Sampdoria and to fight to avoid the drop was a difficult situation," Macheda said to Sky Italia.

"I wanted to have an experience in Italy but now I want to remain in the Premier League.

"England is better suited for young players."

The 19-year-old, who is under contract with United until June 2013, failed to score in 14 Serie A appearances for the Genoa outfit.

"I arrived in Genoa with great enthusiasm," Macheda said."The first few games the team and I did very well but after the defeat to Napoli, I did not find continuity."
