Euro 2016 preview: Germany vs Italy: What time does it start, where can I watch it live?

It’s been a quiet tournament for the usually prolific German number 13. The Bayern Munich forward has scored ten goals in 13 games at World Cups, but has yet to register in eight appearances at European Championships. A return to goalscoring form would be timely if Germany are to break their ‘Italian curse.’ The World champions have yet to get the better of the Azzurri in eight attempts at major tournaments, including at the semi-final stage four years ago.

In eight meetings at World Cups and European championships, Italy boast a record of four wins and four draws against Germany. The two first met in a goalless draw at the 1962 World Cup. Italian wins since then have included the 1982 World Cup final, and a dramatic 2-0 extra-time win in the semi-final of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Italy came into this tournament with modest expectations, even being labelled the ‘worst Italian side ever’ by one publication at home. What a difference a couple of weeks makes.

A side without stars, featuring several journeymen, Antonio Conte’s team have peaked perfectly during this tournament. Eder exemplifies their story. The 29 year-old Brazilian born striker, who qualifies for Italy through his grandfather, only received his first call-up in 2015, after a relatively unspectacular club career. Now with Internazionale, Eder has shone so far in France.
