From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It was all fun and memes for Patrice Evra, after France’s 2-1 win over Ireland at Euro 2016.
A still from the match, showing Evra in an unusual half squat position, inspired people everywhere with too much time on their hands to take to photoshop.
The Juventus full-back showed he has a sense of humour, sharing some of the most creative efforts via his Instagram account.
France came from behind in the last 16 encounter in Lyon with two goals from Antoine Griezmann. Robbie Brady had given Ireland the lead with a penalty in the second minute after a clumsy challenge from Paul Pogba.
Evra, now 35, completed the full 90 minutes.
But he also became an internet sensation in the process.
His favourite memes included…
A Rafiki impression...
Bongo drums and quad biking…
And a spot of show-jumping...
He will be in more serious mode next Sunday, when the hosts will play in the quarter-final against the winners of Monday night’s encounter between England and Iceland, at 8pm.
