England fans were left in a familiar state of anger and despair after Joe Hart’s mistake allowed Gareth Bale to give Wales the lead in the Euro 2016 Group B encounter against Wales.

No sooner had the Manchester City and England No 1 palmed the swerving free-kick into his own net, fans were filling up Twitter timelines to vent their anger at yet another goalkeeping calamity. Following in the footsteps of Rob Green and David Seaman, Hart should have dealt much better when Bale’s long-range free-kick came his way.

But he could only succeed in diving too late to his left to palm the ball into the side-netting, and cue wild celebrations for the thousands of Welsh fans attending the match in Lens.

England had dominated much of the opening half, but the goal took the wind right out of their sails, and silenced those England fans inside the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

However, there was no silencing the angry voices on Twitter, as a selection of tweets below reveals.

After naming the same side as that which drew 1-1 with Russia, England manager Roy Hodgson could only watch as Raheem Sterling missed a golden opportunity to put the Three Lions ahead.
