England manager Roy Hodgson has recalled Raheem Sterling to the starting line-up for the European Championship second round tie with Iceland.

The Manchester City forward has attracted criticism in recent weeks, from from terraces and on social media, after a succession of poor displays for his country.

New City manager Pep Guardiola has also been forced to contact Sterling to reassure the former Liverpool man that he remains a part of his plans at the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Hodgson calls upon Harry Kane and Daniel Sturridge to provide the firepower to send England into the last eight of the competition.

Sturridge scored the winner against eventual Group B winners Wales while Kane is yet to find the net amid suspicions over his fitness.

Eric Dier and Wayne Rooney are joined by Dele Alli in a less surprising midfield selection while Kyle Walker, Chris Smalling, Gary Cahill and Danny Rose start in defence.

Hodgson has openly admitted that tonight's match in Nice represents a junction in his England career.

If his side lose this evening, it is almost certain to spell the end of his time in charge of the national team.

Teams...

England: Hart, Walker, Smalling, Cahill, Rose, Sterling, Dier, Rooney, Alli, Sturridge, Kane.

Iceland: Halldórsson; Sævarsson, Árnason, R Sigurdsson, Skúlason; Gudmundsson, Sigurdsson, Gunnarsson, Bjarnason; Sigthórsson, Bödvarsson.
