Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s a big game for…

Jack Butland: The Stoke City goalkeeper looks to be rewarded for his sensational start to the season with his third international cap for the Three Lions. With his first appearance at Wembley on the horizon, England’s youngest ever shot-stopper will have to justify his claim of the number one slot ahead of Joe Hart. Making over 50 saves this season, and a shot to save ratio at over 80%, Butland has to transform the hype surrounding him onto the pitch.

Key Stats…

• England have failed to beat France in their last six meetings, they lasted tasted victory over the French in 1997

• England haven’t beaten France on home soil since 1992

• France have scored either one or two goals every match against England in their last six encounters

Remember when…

These two countries met in the opening match of group B in the European Championships in 2004. A Frank Lampard header looked to secure the points, only for Zinedine Zidane to score twice in injury time, including being sick behind the goal. The game had everything, and even included a David Beckham missed penalty that would have made the score 2-0.

Player to watch…

Dele Alli: The Tottenham central midfielder is widely expected to start, and after making his debut last month, the immensely talented 19 year old may feature in an advanced role behind captain Wayne Rooney. A stand-out performer in Spurs’ season so far - chipping in with two goals in ten league games, Alli combines power and finesse when in control of the ball. Shrugging players off when he is in full flow, and an eye for the acute pass, the former MK Dons star is blossoming into a top player.
