From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Your support makes all the difference.Jonjo Shelvey is in line for an England recall when Roy Hodgson names his squad on Sunday for the European Championship qualifiers against San Marino and Switzerland. The Swansea midfielder has started the season strongly and is the likely beneficiary of Jack Wilshere's absence and injury concerns over Michael Carrick.
Shelvey has won a solitary cap, co-incidentally against San Marino, in 2012 when he replaced Carrick 66 minutes into a 5-0 win. The 23-year-old is expected to play for Swansea City at home to Manchester United on Sunday where he will be in direct competition with Carrick.
One quality he will bring to England is an ability to chip in with a goal from central midfield, something that, prior to Wilshere’s brace against Slovenia in June, England have missed since the retirements of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
Hodgson is also expected to retain Jamie Vardy despite the Leicester City striker being disciplined by his club for racially abusing a Japanese man in a casino during pre-season. The FA are happy that the club has taken appropriate action which has included asking the FA to conduct a bespoke programme of diversity awareness training. Vardy has met the man he insulted and the fine levied by Leicester will be paid to a charity of the man’s choice.
England play San Marino in Serravalle on Friday evening and Switzerland at Wembley on Tuesday 8 September. Depending on results elsewhere two wins could confirm qualification for the finals in France next summer.
