England emerged from the resignation of Kevin Keegan with a 0-0 draw against Finland this evening.

But, despite being outplayed for much of the match, they had reason to curse their luck as two key decisions went against them which could have earned them three vital points.

The referee failed to send off the Finnish goalkeeper after he felled Teddy Sheringham outside the box after just six minutes.

And he refused to give a goal when Ray Parlour's shot bounced down after hitting the bar and appeared to cross the line in the final minutes.

Television replays seemed to show the ball had gone in.

The result leaves England fourth out of five teams in Group Nine, with just one point.
