From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

What can happen?

Spain are already guaranteed progress but will ensure top spot as long as they avoid defeat.

Croatia can leapfrog Spain with a win and will finish second with a draw. If Croatia lose they will still finish second if Czech Republic fail to beat Turkey.

It’s a big game for…

Ivan Rakitic

With midfield partner Luka Modric doubtful through injury, the Barcelona man will bear the creative burden for Croatia. Rakitic will be key in stemming the tide of Spanish attacks and acting as the focal point for his side when they are in possession. In the build-up to the match, Rakitic has been insistent that Croatia won’t play it safe and will be going for victory in Bordeaux.

Best stat…

Spain go into the fixture unbeaten in their last 14 Euros finals fixtures, having not conceded a goal in 690 minutes of action.

Player to watch…

Alvaro Morata

After their disastrous defence of their World Cup title in Brazil two years ago, it was clear that a changing of the guard was needed in the Spanish squad. Morata represents possibly the most exciting member of the new crop. An all-round striker, the 23 year-old is coming off the back of a second excellent season with Juventus and netted twice last time out against Turkey.
