From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Friday night's 2-0 defeat in their opening Group A fixture against Belgium in Cardiff was the fourth game in a row in which Wales have drawn a blank. No goals in four games would be a poor return for any side, but particularly for a Welsh side including the likes of Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey and Joe Allen.
But Coleman insists he is happy with the chances his side are creating. "Our last three games have been against three very good teams in Mexico, Bosnia and now Belgium, but the only performance I was not happy with was against Bosnia," he said. "We now have to go to Serbia, put in a performance like we did against Belgium and we need to put the ball in the net, we are aware of that."
Serbia also failed to score in their opener, as they were held to a 0-0 draw against Scotland on Saturday. A section of the Hampden Park crowd booed the home side's players at the final whistle but defender Christophe Berra feels it will prove to be a good point should Scotland win their next Group A match, at home against Macedonia tomorrow.
"If we win on Tuesday we walk away with four points and I think that would be pleasing all round," said the Wolves player. "I think the way we performed against Serbia, who are a top team, when we go over there to play them we won't have any fears."
