Torres lost his place in the Spain squad after struggling to impress with Chelsea but he was recalled last week by coach Vicente del Bosque for this summer's Confederations Cup.
That came after Torres enjoyed an impressive end to the season with Chelsea, with the former Liverpool striker a regular scorer as the Blues lifted the Europa League and finished third in the Premier League.
Speaking about his return to international duty, the 29-year-old Torres told reporters today: "I was not in the last two squads and you always know it's very difficult to get a place.
"It's not easy, there are a lot of colleagues who are doing well but the end of the season was very good for my team and me. I was hoping to return, and now I'm hoping to play and train and continue doing things well."
Torres is set to be under the leadership of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea next season but for the time being his focus is on trying to return from Brazil with the Confederations Cup.
"It's a joy to be here to compete in a tournament like this which we've never won. We have high hopes, we want to be the last team standing and return with the cup," he said.
