Brazil had struggled to take control of the game and had to survive a number of scares in the second-half. However, they eventually took the lead after 67 minutes when Rivaldo's long-range shot was deflected into the net.

Brazil put the result beyond doubt after 87 minutes When Ronaldo finished off a quick Brazilian counter-attack to score his fifth goal of the tournament.
