From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The second leg of the finals finished regulation time at 1-1, the same score as the first leg on Dec. 6.
In the penalty shootout, Abbondanzieri caught shots by Leandro Augusto and Joaquin Beltran, while Gerardo Galindo smashed his against a goalpost. Gonzalo Pineda, Martin Cardetti and Bruno Marioni scored for Pumas.
Pumas 'keeper Sergio Bernal also blocked shots by Guillermo Barros Schelotto and Martin Palermo, but Federico Insua, Rolando Schiavi, Marcelo Delgado and Abbondanzieri scored.
The title crowned a memorable centennial year for Boca, which became the fourth team in the world to win 15 international trophies after Argentina's Independiente, Spain's Real Madrid, and Italy's Milan.
Earlier in the week, Boca won its 21st national championship, and in July it won the Recopa Sudamericana.
On a windy night before 50,000 spectators, Boca seized possession, and delivered long passes from midfield to forwards Palermo and Rodrigo Palacio.
Insua's free kick in the 31st minute found a rising Palermo, who kicked it in with his heel.
Pumas equalized in the 54th off a penalty kick through Marioni, given for a hand ball by Schiavi.
