Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.A former Queens Park Rangers youth goalkeeper has died at the age of 21, following a short illness.
Tommaso Trani was on the books of the west London club between 2011 and 2013, having spent two years before that in the AC Milan youth team.
He returned to his native Italy after his contract expired.
Interim coach Neil Warnock, who was in charge of the club when Tommaso first joined, expressed his sadness at the "tragic" news.
"This is absolutely tragic news. Tommaso was such a lovely, lovely lad," he told the club website.
"When something terrible like this happens it opens everybody’s eyes to the fact that football is only a game. There is nothing more important than your health.
"It gives us all a sense of perspective, particularly as he was so young. My thoughts are with his family."
The club added that "the thoughts of everyone at QPR are with Tommaso’s family and friends and this extremely-difficult time."
