Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Queen's Park Rangers The Birmingham midfielder Rowan Vine has joined the Loftus Road club, becoming the manager Luigi de Canio's eighth signing. The 25-year-old (right) moves to West London for an undisclosed fee, having spent three months on loan at the club earlier this season. "As soon as I was informed a permanent deal could be on the cards I was delighted," Vine said. "I enjoyed my loan spell and the club have made their intentions clear with the quality they have brought in."
Ipswich Town The club have lost their appeal against the dismissal of midfielder Liam Trotter during Saturday's FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth last weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday Director Keith Addy has resigned after admitting to making a racially offensive comment to a member of staff at the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. Addy, who owns a 30 per cent stake in the club, has decided to stand down. "I would like to make a full apology to the employee who the comment was made to," he said.
West Bromwich Albion The Baggies striker Kevin Phillips has been named the Championship's Player of the Month for December after scoring five goals in four games following his return from a knee injury.

Leyton Orient The defender Sam Oji has joined the O's after being released by Birmingham City. The 22-year-old moved to Brisbane Road on an initial month's loan last summer, a move that was later extended to three months. He made just one substitute appearance in three years at the Premier League side.
Leeds United Rival clubs have been warned off making a bid for striker Jermaine Beckford. The League One top-scorer has attracted interest from a number of sides. "It is an exciting time for the club and Jermaine is very much part of the future here," a statement read.
Peterborough United The club have broken their transfer record in signing Norwich goalkeeper Joe Lewis for 400,000. The four-and-a-half-year deal eclipses the 350,000 paid to Birmingham for Martin O'Connor in 1996.
