The former Saints striker Alan Shearer has distanced himself from reports linking him with the vacant managerial position at St Mary's. The 37-year-old had been suggested as a replacement for George Burley, who left the South Coast last month to take over at Scotland. "I've heard nothing," Shearer said. "I'm going to be very busy for the next six or seven months with television and charity work. I know Jason Dodd and John Gorman have been put in charge and I wish them all the best." Shearer scored 43 goals in 158 games for the club between 1988 and 1992.

Kaspars Gorkss will miss tonight's visit of Wolves through suspension.
* West Bromwich Albion
Manager Tony Mowbray has agreed a new deal with the Baggies, keeping him at the Hawthorns until 2011. "I'm delighted to have been offered a new contract," he said. "We're all on a journey – hopefully to the Premier League." Assistant manager Mark Venus has also agreed a new deal. "We're delighted Tony and Mark have signed contracts," chairman Jeremy Peace added. "Tony is one of the brightest managerial prospects and we're pleased to secure his services. He is a pleasure to work with and his brand of football has been a joy to watch."
* Crystal Palace
Danny Butterfield has signed a two-year contract extension at Selhurst Park. "I want to move forward at an exciting time for the club," the defender said. "I believe we can challenge for honours."
League One
* Bournemouth
Cherries chairman Jeff Mostyn has confirmed talks with potential investors are ongoing. "I'm positive about bringing current negotiations to a successful conclusion," he said, before confirming that there are three groups interested in the club. The Dean Court side entered administration last week, incurring a 10-point penalty.
* Crewe Alexandra
Neil Cox is to undergo a shoulder operation this month in an attempt to clear up a recurrent problem. "It is not something we can wait for until the end of the season," coach Steve Holland said. "It needs to be dealt with now and once he undergoes the operation he will be out for at least six weeks."
* Northampton Town
The 19-year-old defender Mark Little has had his loan spell at the Cobblers extended for a second month.
League Two
* Brentford
The Fulham midfielder Robert Milsom has moved to Griffin Park on a one-month loan deal. Manager Andy Scott hopes to complete the move in time for Milsom to feature against Barnet tonight. The 21-year-old signed a new contract at Craven Cottage yesterday and has captained the Whites reserve team this season but makes the move in the hope of gaining first-team experience.
* Rotherham United
Physio Dennis Circuit said Stephen Brogan will receive the "best possible treatment" as he recovers from a broken leg. The 19-year-old suffered the injury during the 1-1 draw at Milton Keynes Dons last weekend and underwent an operation on Sunday. "Stephen is doing very well," Circuit said of the defender. "We are looking to be positive now and look after him as best we can."
