Stomach problem puts Holloway in hospital

The manager of Queen's Park Rangers, Ian Holloway, has been admitted to hospital after his stomach complaint worsened over the weekend.

Holloway will have tests to discover the nature of the problem which almost prevented him from taking charge of the team during the 6-1 weekend defeat at Leeds. Doctors are trying to establish whether he is suffering from food poisoning or a viral infection.

The first-team coaches, Gary Waddock, Gary Penrice and Tim Breaker, will take over the reins in Holloway's absence.

The QPR chief executive, Mark Devlin, said that Holloway should not have travelled to Leeds. "I don't think Ian did himself any favours by going up on Saturday. I can understand why he wanted to do it because it was a big game, but it's not done his health any good at all, putting himself under that pressure. We don't want Ian to come back any earlier than he should do."
