"I have told the players it's a test of character," Simpson said. "It's all systems go because we have to get straight back out of the Conference."
York City were also relegated after a 2-1 defeat by Leyton Orient. Several hundred fans invaded the pitch at the final whistle to salute the players. Their player-manager, Chris Brass, said: "It feels like we've just won promotion from the Third Division and not relegation."
