The 20-year-old will stay at Oakwell until January 14 and could go straight into manager Keith Hill's squad for Saturday's clash at Leeds.
The move comes less than a week after Ranger pleased not guilty to assault and drunk and disorderly behaviour charges at Newcastle magistrates court. He was remanded on conditional bail and will re-appear in court on January 13.
When asked what he hoped to get out of his eight-week spell at Oakwell, Ranger told the club's official website, http://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk: "Eight weeks, eight games and eight goals hopefully. If I get games and starts goals will definitely come."
Millwall have completed the loan signing of Aston Villa defender Nathan Baker.
The 20-year-old, an England Under-21 international, has moved to south London on an initial month-long deal.
Baker could make his debut for the Lions in Saturday's derby clash with Crystal Palace.

Cardiff defender Dekel Keinan has joined fellow npower Championship club Crystal Palace on loan until January 2.

Keinan moved to the Welsh side in the January transfer window having started his career with Maccabi Haifa before transferring to Blackpool in 2010.
