From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Goals from Lewin Nyatanga and Nicky Maynard put City 2-0 up at Ashton Gate but strikes inside the final 19 minutes from Jonas Gutierrez and Andy Carroll secured a point for Newcastle and mean they are 10 points clear of third-placed Nottingham Forest with nine games to play.
"Games like this teach you to keep feet firmly on the ground," Hughton said. "There has never been any question about the spirit in our squad and we had to demonstrate it again."
Graham Dorrans inspired West Bromwich Albion in second to a 3-2 win over Preston North End, which keeps them eight points clear of Forest, who were unimpressive in a 1-0 home win over bottom club Peterborough. The Scottish midfielder set up one for Chris Brunt and scored himself with a free-kick. "We are in a good position but as you know, you can lose it very quickly in football," the Albion manager Roberto di Matteo said.
At the bottom, Scunthorpe came from behind to beat fellow strugglers Plymouth 2-1 at Glanford Park, a result which put Crystal Palace, who let slip a two-goal lead in drawing 2-2 at Blackpool, into the bottom three.
