Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Port Vale and Nottingham Forest, joint leaders of League One, both came from behind to maintain their perfect starts to the season thanks to in-form marksmen. Leon Constantine scored twice - five goals in four matches this season - as leaders Vale beat Chesterfield 3-2 and Grant Holt's two goals helped Forest to beat Brighton 2-1 at the City Ground. Eddie Johnson scored two as third-placed Bradford City won 3-0 at struggling Crewe and Jo Kuffour, who followed manager Leroy Rosenior from Torquay to Brentford was on the score-sheet with a pair as the Bees drew 2-2 with Chesterfield.

Blackpool scored their first goals of the season and earned a first win too in a 4-2 victory at Bristol City and Rotherham yet again ate into their points deduction with a 2-1 defeat of Scunthorpe. Millwall won under Nigel Spackman for the first time, Poul Hubertz' goal enough to beat Oldham Athletic.

The Dennis Wise effect is working at Swindon Town, the only side in League Two with a 100 per cent record after four games. Goals by Paul Evans and Christian Roberts in the first 21 minutes at Darlington set up their 2-1 win. Trevor Benjamin scored two as second-placed Peterborough United beat Macclesfield 3-1. At the bottom, Barnet picked up their first points of the season with a 3-0 win over Hereford United, but Rochdale, beaten 1-0 at home by Notts County, and Bury, who lost 3-0 at Wycombe thanks to Jermaine Easter's hat-trick, await their first point. Rochdale, indeed, haven't scored yet, but Hartlepool's Lee Bullock broke their duck as they drew 1-1 with visitors Torquay.
