Your support makes all the difference.Paul Scholes has walked away from his post as manager of Oldham Athletic barely a month after taking charge, claiming he was misled by the club’s hierarchy.
Scholes took over the club he supported as a boy on 11 February, having been cleared by the English Football League following a potential conflict of his interest with his part-ownership of Salford United.
He achieved one win, three draws and two defeats in his brief spell in charge before suddenly walking away on Thursday.
“It is with great regret that I have decided to leave the club with immediate effect,” he said in a statement.
“I hoped to at the very least, see out my initial term of 18 months as the manager of a club I’ve supported all my life. The fans, players, my friends and family all knew how proud and excited I was to take this role.
“In the short period since I took on the role it unfortunately became clear that I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role.
“I wish the fans, the players and the staff – who have been tremendous – all the best for the rest of the season and will continue to watch and support the club as a fan.”
At the time of signing a one-and-a-half year contract, owner Abdallah Lemsagam said: “It’s no secret how much he has wanted this job in the past and how much he loves this club, so I’m very happy to bring him into our family at Oldham Athletic.
“Paul will have my backing 100% and hopefully we can work together to bring success back to this club.”
