From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Taylor's departure was not unexpected with Palace 19th in the Championship following the 1-1 draw with his former club Hull City at the weekend. Taylor has also endured a demanding relationship with Palace chairman, Simon Jordan, and has appeared on borrowed time for a while.
Jordan is a friend of Warnock and has not hidden his admiration for the 58-year-old, who left Sheffield United at the end of last season following eight largely successful years at Bramall Lane.
Indeed Warnock's stock has risen since his departure especially as the Blades have struggled under their new manager, Bryan Robson. Warnock is also regarded as a battle-hardened manager with a good track record of gaining promotions. Whether or not he will want the upheaval of moving south is another matter, however, especially as he has two young children.
Jordan will hope that he can persuade Warnock to come to Selhurst Park to succeed Taylor who only took over from Iain Dowie 15 months ago. It was expected that Palace would challenge for promotion last year but they ended up finishing mid-table. They have made a disappointing start this season with 10 points from 10 matches – with only one victory in their last 10 league and cup games.
As recently as June, Jordan insisted that he was happy with Taylor. Nevertheless last January Taylor felt he had to relinquish his role as England under-21 coach to concentrate on club management.
Warnock's candidacy has been endorsed by the former Palace striker, Neil Shipperley. He played for Warnock at the Blades, and has now retired, and said yesterday: "Neil Warnock would be in my top three managers – he's a great motivator. He's a great boss and if Palace were to get him, I'd be a massive fan of that."
Queen's Park Rangers are also on the look-out for a new manager following the sacking of John Gregory. A number of high-profile names – including Gianluca Vialli and Warnock – have been linked with the Loftus Road job but it appears the club is considering Glenn Roeder. The former QPR defender has been out-of-work since leaving Newcastle United last season and is keen to make a quick return to management.
