From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Terry Yorath, Wednesday's caretaker manager, admitted afterwards that their goal "came out of nothing" and it was no understatement. Forest dominated utterly and would have had the points wrapped up long before the end but for poor finishing. Not that their manager, Paul Hart, seemed too disconsolate.
"Obviously I'm disappointed with the result but I can't say I'm too disappointed with the performance," he said. "What this will do is temper expectations but then if you look at our record, our goal scoring has not been great. I've never said we're promotion candidates because you need to score more goals than we do.
"My immediate job now is to lift the players to give a good performance at the weekend against West Brom. They're disappointed tonight because they don't like losing but I thought the manner in which we played was excellent."
Yorath, who said he has no idea when the Wednesday board are likely to decide on who will be their next permanent manager, was also looking to the future. "It doesn't even come into my thinking," he said when asked if his side can avoid relegation. "Being in charge is like having a new born baby," he added. "I'm taking it a day at a time, watching it grow up and waiting to see what's going to happen."
Hart, with no money to spend and a team largely built on young, inexperienced players, has been doing something similar this season. His side have not let him down and seemed destined last night, with guidance from their seasoned captain, former Wednesday player Chris Bart-Williams, to take the spoils. David Johnson, a livewire around the box, saw three shots either saved or go wide in the first half alone. Jim Brennan also went close, as did Stern John, twice in the first half and then woefully for a third time after the break. Johnson then saw a long-range effort saved, Jermaine Jenas sent a curler round the post and Bart-Williams missed a sitter from eight yards on 72 minutes that would probably have proved decisive.
Six minutes later Forest paid for their profligacy when, on a rare break, Morrison dashed in from the left, skipped along the edge of the box and rifled the ball home.
