United also require Forest to lose at Crystal Palace and a six-goal swing, but first-team coach Glynn Snodin insists that they remain in with a shout, however unlikely.
"The season finishes on Saturday, not last weekend," he told the club's website.
"It's a funny game. Anything can happen and you have to believe that. Who knows? QPR might be relaxed, we might score two or three and we'll see what happens between Palace and Forest."
Forest are three points ahead of Leeds and know a point will do against a side who secured survival with a draw at Hull last weekend.
Grayson confirmed Luciano Becchio would delay surgery on his hamstring injury to make himself available were Leeds to make the play-offs.
QPR boss Neil Warnock has urged the club's supporters to create a party atmosphere at Loftus Road, even if their promotion to the Barclays Premier League is still subject to the outcome of a Football Association hearing into seven charges relating to the registration of Argentinian midfielder Alejandro Faurlin in 2009.
But for the time being Warnock is focused on ending the campaign on a high.
"I love Loftus Road and I want the fans to enjoy the party on Saturday," he told the club's website.
"The atmosphere at our ground is unlike anything else. It's a unique stadium - that's what makes it so special.
"I don't think the big boys will relish getting changed in the Loftus Road dressing rooms next season.
"Simon has done a fabulous job up there.
"He's a great up-and-coming manager and they've got a very bright future ahead of them
"I think it'll be a cracking match and I can't wait.
"We want to go out with a bang - I don't think we could have picked a better fixture to end the season with."
Elsewhere, Cardiff will look to bounce back from their shock defeat to Middlesbrough when they travel to Burnley, needing a win to guarantee third spot.
Swansea could take advantage of any slip-up by the Bluebirds to move above them with victory over relegated Sheffield United and fourth-placed Reading host Derby.
Promoted Norwich end a glorious season at home to Coventry, Millwall travel to Barnsley, Middlesbrough are at home to Doncaster and Hull travel to Bristol City.
Leicester welcome Ipswich, Preston take on Watford and Scunthorpe entertain Portsmouth.
