Your support makes all the difference.Danny Kedwell's 15th goal of the season three minutes into the second half at Priestfield was all Gillingham needed to beat Torquay United 1-0 and become the first Football League club to earn promotion this season, winning a return to League One, which they left in 2010. The Gulls hit the woodwork twice, but the Gills hung on. At a slightly more rarefied level, Bayern Munich sealed their 23rd Bundesliga title with a 1-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to Bastian Schweinsteiger's 53rd-minute strike.
In the Championship, matters are far from being settled. Substitute Lewis McGugan's 81st-minute penalty salvaged a point at the City Ground for fifth-placed Nottingham Forest from a 1-1 draw with Blackpool, who played with 10 men for over half an hour after Isaiah Osbourne's red card early in the second half. Ludovic Sylvestre had given the Seasiders the lead just before the half-hour; the penalty by McGugan means he has scored in each of Forest's past six games. "We were robbed, totally robbed," said the aggrieved Pool manager, Paul Ince.
There was larceny afoot at Pride Park too, where the Ipswich manager, Mick McCarthy, admitted, "We burgled it," after Carlos Edwards's 93rd-minute goal and a fifth consecutive clean sheet saw Derby County beaten 1-0. The Rams missed their fourth penalty on the trot.
Crystal Palace and Barnsley drew 0-0, Palace's fourth game without scoring made the more confusing when Barnsley's away kit of blue and black was deemed to clash with Palace's red and blue, so the Tykes had to play in the hosts' away strip. Bolton Wanderers are only two points off the play-offs after a 2-0 home win over Wolves.
It is even tighter at the bottom. Jermaine Johnson scored twice as Sheffield Wednesday beat Blackburn 3-2 at Hillsborough, Rovers dropping into the bottom three. They join Peterborough, who drew 2-2 at Huddersfield, and Bristol City, beaten 3-2 at Burnley. Millwall limbered up for next Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Wigan with a 1-1 draw at Birmingham City.
