From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Exeter City have sacked their manager John Cornforth following Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to York City.

The 34-year-old Cornforth took charge of City last term after Noel Blake was dismissed folowing a poor start. Now the former Sunderland and Swansea midfielder has been dismissed following a run of results that has seen the Devon club slip to 21st in the Third Division and record only three wins.

Eamonn Dolan, the Devon club's club's director of youth football, has put in temporary charge of first-team affairs but the executive vice chairman Mike Lewis confirmed: "We will not be appointing from within again. When we bring the new man in, we want new ideas.

"We have got to have someone with fresh ideas and new concepts. It's a shame to see John go but that's football, I'm afraid. John did a great job for this club last season, but this season things have not gone his way."
