Adebayo Akinfenwa put Rovers ahead on the hour, with Paul Green adding a second five minutes later. The victory leaves Dave Penney's Division Three table-toppers 14 points clear of fourth-placed Torquay with four matches left. It is the second successive promotion for Rovers, who last season won the Conference play-offs.
Queens Park Rangers lost ground on the Second Division leaders Plymouth after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Barnsley.
Paul Furlong put the visitors 2-1 ahead with just 15 minutes to play, only for Daniel Nardiello (85) and David Murphy (89) to seemingly claim all three points for the Tykes. But Furlong struck again in the last minute to rescue a point for Ian Holloway's side, who are now five adrift of Plymouth.
Meanwhile Rotherham went a long way to preserving their First Division status with a crucial 2-0 victory at Stoke.

The Bradford manager Bryan Robson conceded defeat in the battle for First Division safety after his side were beaten by a freak own goal at Derby.
The Bantams goalkeeper Alan Combe saw the ball ricochet off his back and into the net from a Rob Wolleaston clearance five minutes after Bradford had wiped out a two-goal deficit.
The Rams had raced into the lead with goals from Leon Osman and Ian Taylor but strikes from Peter Atherton and Wolleaston looked to have saved a point for City.
He said: "We were relegated today, even though it's mathematically possible to get out of it."
