It was a recovery that gave the Rams manager, Billy Davies, a dizzy spell, which he later blamed on a missed lunch. "To be fair, the first 45 minutes left me dizzy. We are our own worst enemy and I'm going to have to talk to the Uefa about getting the games started at half-time."
After 26 minutes, Nathan Ellington collected the ball in midfield but when he tried to play in Diomansy Kamara the ball spun to Richard Chaplow. The midfielder took it on, rounded Stephen Bywater and fired in from six yards.
The Rams' raid began in the 69th minute when the former Saint Oakley fired in from 25 yards. Three minutes later Morten Bisgaard centred and Barnes headed in, his fourth goal in three games.
"In the first half we showed the too much respect," Davies said afterwards, "but in the second half we showed courage and determination and won the match."
Albion manager Tony Mowbray was phlegmatic. "We have got a very disappointed dressing room, the players know they didn't get what they deserved."
