Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Paul Henderson was barely troubled behind a well-organised Leicester City defence and Adams was gracious enough to acknowledge the visitors as the better side.
Coventry have failed to score in either of the last two matches and the worry is whether Adams can act effectively before the transfer window closes by spending the windfall from a deal he did not want.
"Gary is not here now, so we don't worry about him," he said. "A new hero will emerge sooner rather than later. There is money in the kitty, although it would be easier if other clubs didn't believe I had £4m to spend, because I haven't."
Chants of "Why did we sell McSheffrey?" twice broke out in a second half controlled by Coventry. The closest they went to a breakthrough was when former Leicester defender Matt Heath headed wide from Stephen Hughes' corner and when a deflected pull-back by Colin Cameron cannoned wide off substitute Kevin Thornton's thigh.
There was also an encouraging debut via the bench from the Moroccan Faysal El Idrissi. Alas, it was much ado about nothing.
Leicester were much more convincing in the first half. As well as a flurry of long-range efforts, they saw Josh Low drag a clear chance wide from 15 yards while Nils-Eric Johansson and Iain Hume brought reaction saves from Andy Marshall. All Coventry offered in the first half were a couple of Don Hutchison free-kicks, the second of which clipped the post.
