Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Northampton Town chairman, Barry Stonhill, expects to appoint a new manager at the Sixfields stadium today after Kevin Wilson became the new season's latest managerial casualty.

Wilson, who also played for the Cobblers, managed Northampton for just under two years, helping the club win promotion to the Second Division in the 1999-2000 season.

But Northampton had a poor finish to last season and ended in 18th spot after being in play-off contention for much of the campaign. The club are currently 23rd in the Second Division after 10 matches, having lost eight of those games, the decisive defeat for Wilson being a 3-1 home reverse to Blackpool on Tuesday night.

Stonhill does not expect his search for a replacement to last very long. "The board are very concerned at the run of results, not just this season, but also at the end of last season," said Stonhill. "It was a very hard decision, but we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Kevin for all his hard work here in the last four years."

Brighton continue to lead the way after a 1-1 draw at Wycombe on Tuesday night. Nathan Jones put the Seagulls in front after 11 minutes, but Andy Rammell cancelled out the goal with his 62nd-minute reply.

Oldham move into second spot after handing Bury an eighth successive defeat in 4-0 win at Boundary Park. Lee Duxbury (8), Matthew Tipton (45), Carlo Corazzin (63) and Mark Allott (90) scored for the Latics, and to make things worse for the Shakers, Gareth Seddon was sent off for violent conduct in the 72nd minute.

Brentford lost their unbeaten record with a 2-0 defeat at Swindon, Danny Invincibile (39) and Guiliano Grazioli (63) scoring in each half.

Bristol City are third after beating Tranmere 2-0 at Ashton Gate, with Steve Jones and Tony Thorpe the scorers. Queen's Park Rangers are a place behind them after beating Cardiff 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Graham Kavanagh put the Bluebirds in front with a 38th-minute penalty, but Andy Thomson replied with a brace to take his tally to nine for the season, the first a spot kick.

Huddersfield are on the heels of the leading pack, but Chesterfield will be better pleased with a 0-0 draw at the McAlpine stadium.

Notts County contained free-scoring Peterborough and Mark Stallard stole the points when making it 1-0 with an injury time winner while James Hayter was the Bournemouth hero with the 71st-minute winner against Reading.

Cambridge United and Wigan drew 2-2 at the Abbey stadium, Richard Prokas and Thomas Youngs scoring for United with Neil Roberts getting both for Paul Jewell's team.

There was no joy for Joey Jones, caretaker manager at Wrexham, whose side went down 3-1 at home to Port Vale.
