Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Robinson, 22, started the season with Huddersfield before joining the Lions initially on loan. He only made his move to south London permanent last month but has now moved on to the Midlands.
Rams manager Nigel Clough said: "Theo is another forward with raw pace and we have found out to our cost what he is capable of in front of goal already this season. He has been on our radar for some time."
Meanwhile, Derby goalkeeper Saul Deeney is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in training. The former Burton man hurt his shoulder on Monday and could be out for around a fortnight.
Bristol City have lost on-loan winger Danny Rose after he was recalled by parent club Tottenham.
The promising 20-year-old – who scored a stunning goal for Spurs against Arsenal last season – was supposed to remain with the Robins until the end of the season but has been called back to White Hart Lane early despite not being fully fit.
Rose has been struggling with a hamstring injury and leaves Ashton Gate after making 17 appearances for the club, without finding the net.
Port Vale boss Jim Gannon is hoping to tie James O'Shea and Tom Pope to new deals at the club. O'Shea, who is currently on loan from Birmingham, will play his last game for the Valiants against Stevenage while Gannon is also hopeful of signing Pope on a permanent deal but has claimed the final decision lies with Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore.
Gannon said: "James O'Shea's loan deal is up but I would like to sit down with him and speak to people at Birmingham. He is a very good and talented player and I think he's got a big future in the game. Regarding Tom Pope, I don't have a difficult decision. The finances are there to strengthen. The chairman was quite clear that with players like him that can make a difference, there will always be money made available for people like that."
Huddersfield manager Lee Clark has confirmed that he is not looking to bring in any new players to the Galpharm Stadium on loan deals. With the loan market still open Clark has said he expects nobody to come in or leave the Terriers.
Clark told Huddersfield's official website: "Nothing is planned –I believe we have good continuity at the minute.
"We're on a good run and the team is in a bit of rhythm, but obviously that can change on a daily or game-by-game basis if you pick up one or two injuries."
