From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Rangers had trailed to goals from Kris Commons and James Bailey but late strikes from Patrick Agyemang and Jamie Mackie stunned the Pride Park faithful to earn the visitors an unlikely point. Warnock said: "I think a lot of teams might have packed up at that late stage. But I said to the players before the game that there are going to be times this season when we go 2- or 3-0 down. I always think we can get a result because I believe we are capable of scoring goals in a split second."
The Derby manager, Nigel Clough, felt the result was harsh on his players, with the Rams without a win since the opening day of the season. He said: "It's frustrating. We played so well for so long and then we got punished at the end but that's been the story of the last three league games.
"I thought that we should have finished it off and made it 3-1 in stoppage time," he added, "but at the moment, we can't finish games off and we can't quite hang on at the other end."
QPR are level on points at the top with Cardiff and Ipswich, who won 2-0 at home to Bristol City, Jason Scotland marking his first start for Roy Keane's side since signing from Wigan last week with a goal.
The Sheffield United manager, Gary Speed, hopes his side can kick on after they claimed a first win of the season against Preston at Bramall Lane. Jean Calve's second-half screamer was enough to give the former Wales international a first taste of victory as a manager. Speed said: "I'm delighted to get the win. Obviously, being my first as a manager, it means a lot. But it is more important for the team."
Swansea were 1-0 winners over Burnley in a game that saw the hosts' Darren Pratley and the Clarets' Tyrone Mears sent off. Scott Sinclair got the only goal after eight minutes.
Coventry midfielder Carl Baker's sending off proved costly as his side lost 3-1 at Millwall. Substitute Baker was dismissed with 18 minutes remaining with the two sides level at 1-1.
Jonathan Forte scored twice as Scunthorpe beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at home, Norwich came from a goal down to draw at Nottingham Forest, Leeds won 1-0 at Watford, Barnsley beat Middlesbrough 2-0, Hull City went down 3-1 at Doncaster and Reading won 2-1 at Leicester in the day's other games.
